ARRIVAL OPTIONS

FERRY :From the ferry ports of Calais, Dieppe and Caen:

TO save money and time the route described below cuts mileage and reduces the tolls to less than 50% of the standard route via Paris and the L'Aquitaine (A10). Use a decent map to follow route below or find your own way to Monein and then follow information below to find house from there.

From the ferry port of Calais or Dieppe take the Autoroute to Rouen. Unfortunately there is no proper by-pass for this city so once there head south following signs to Le Mans- at one point these signs seem to vanish and you may need to follow signs towards Le Havre for a bit, but then signs for Le Mans reappear. You need to be on the south west side of Rouen, an autoroute appears (from seemingly nowhere)A28.  Take this and head south to Le Mans. Stay on this until its end near Tours where it joins the A10, L’Aquitaine autoroute.

Stay on this autoroute until near Poitiers then leave the A10, taking the road to Anglouleme (this is almost all double or triple carriageway but free). Once near Anglouleme follow signs for Bordeaux. This will take 5 or 10 mins longer than staying on the A10 but it save nearly 30 Euros and a few miles as this was the route of the original road to Bordeaux. You will rejoin L’Aquitaine just north of Bordeaux after the Peage section. At Bordeaux, you find yourself on its ring road follow signs for San Sebastian and Bayonne NOT Pau.

Stay on the A63 towards San Sebastian/Bayonne until Junction 11, which is marked Peyrahorade (just before Peage section). Follow signs towards Peyrahorade. Join the RN117 to Orthez and Pau. Follow the RN117 and in Orthez at the roundabout by the Mairie turn right marked Navarrenx. Stay on this road for about 5 mi/8km. Take a left turn onto D110 marked Veillesgure. Pass though Sauvelade, do not turn to Veillesgure village. At end of this road turn left to Mourenx. After less than 1km take a right turn at top of hill marked Lucq de Bearn. Follow this to end, then turn left to towards Monein and Pau. Then after 400m, take first, very small, right into Chemin des Cretes. After less than 1km, at small crossroads (with the bins -one grey, one yellow and black and just before the watertower) turn left into Chemin de Coustette. Farmhouse is first property on left hand side.
Note: If you had turned right at small crossroads by watertower you can then turn right at bottom of hill and you are in the village of Lucq de Bearn after 1km.

FROM PAU AIRPORT

On leaving airport turn right at very first roundabout. Then follow signs towards Bayonne. After 2 or 3 roundabouts, signs for Monein and Mourenx also appear. Follow these signs, instead of Bayonne. You are on the west side of the Pau ring road. You will pass a golf course (Artiguelouve) on LHS after 5km. Turn right at next roundabout onto D2 towards Monein. Stay on main valley road. Straight on at each roundabout until you have a sign left at a roundabout for Monein. Follow this road into Monein. Turn right in front of Mairie onto the Navarrenx road.

FROM MONEIN
Take the road to NAVARRENX. Be warned of difficult bends on first descent after Monein. After 2km pass straight through crossroads signed Cardesse (left) and Lahourcade(right). Through 50KM speed limit. After further approx 2 km watch for the black sign for the start of the commune of LUCQ DE BEARN. Here there are grey grundon type rubbish bins on LHS. Take small turning left beside these bins – marked Chemin de Coustette. You will pass on RHS one new house, then a ruin, then 2 farms , Les Vieux Chenes is next property after this. If you get to small crossroads with water tower you just missed us. If you pass Restaurant Chez Jeannot on LHS you have missed turning at the bins.

FROM BIARRITZ AIRPORT

Follow signs to A63 Autoroute and join it direction BORDEAUX. After about 4 miles TURN off towards PAU &A64 autoroute. Follow signs to A64 autoroute, stay on this either until ORTHEZ (Jn7) quickest route, but some PEAGE then follow instructions from Calais, starting at Orthez OR leave at Jn4, more scenic avoids A64 PEAGE follow signs to Bardos and Bidache. Pass through Bardos, then at Bidache take right on second roundabout marked OLORON ST MARIE. Follow signs to OLoron ST Marie and Navarrenx(D936). At roundabout near Navarrenx follow signs (left turn) towards CENTRE VILLE. Pass over large river, and keep the fortified walls of Navarrenx on your RHS. Over 2 roundabouts (still following town walls) find left turn (D2) to MONEIN. Follow this, make left turn at Jasses onto D2 to Monein. After about 4 miles pass turn (RHS) to Lucq de Bearn- do not turn, past restaurant Chez Jeannot RHS, pass road to Orthez (LHS), TURN at next very small right into Chemin des Cretes. After 1km, at small crossroads, turn left onto Chemin de Coustette. Les Vieux Chenes is first property on LHS.
